About

Who am I?
Hi, I'm Anna! I'm a gouache and oil painter based in central Indiana. I have a background in ecology, and I hope to bring my fascination with interactions between organisms and deep concern for environmental conservation to my artistic work. Many of my paintings incorporate these themes while representing the complexity of the natural environment. Beyond the scientific appeal of nature, I also enjoy spending time in nature while climbing and backpacking. Features of the climbing and outdoor community also heavily influence my work, and many of my paintings depict scenes and experiences that are familiar to climbers and outdoor enthusiasts in the midwest.
Approach
In general, my artistic approach emphasizes using vibrant colors and simplifying objects, light, and shadows into their essential shapes. I thoroughly enjoy painting en plein-air, and many of my paintings are either created entirely outdoors or sketched outdoors and completed in the studio.
Commissioned work
In addition to my personal projects, I love to capture the spirit and personality of places and animals in commissioned work. As a lifelong lover of animals, I have been drawing horses, cats, and dogs for as long as I can remember. Despite branching out into other subjects over the years, animal portraits are still some of my favorite subjects. I enjoy painting custom portraits of animals, and I have also recently begun creating commissioned pieces of locations that hold special meaning.
